Beverly Bailey and her student.

Creative Tutoring

Variety FAR offers private tutoring sessions with a certified tutor to improve reading and math performance.  Exercises are designed to identify the movement through a math problem. Reading comprehension is improved by honing writing skills in conjunction with word identification.  Our instructor Beverly Bailey, has had phenomenal success with her students.

Beverly has worked extensively with learners of all ages and disabilities, including autism, Williams Syndrome, Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and cognitive development disorders. As an experienced classroom teacher, she has developed Math and Reading labs for various public schools.

Beverly is available Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday. Call the FAR office to set up a day and time.

Success Stories

Carol

As an avid hockey fan, Carol was a member of the FAR Stars Hockey Team and the no. 1 cheerleader for the Detroit Red Wings. In 2005, Carol made the decision to venture into the unfamiliar world of reading. Carol’s mom, Dorothy, told FAR, “I asked Carol if she wanted to learn to read.” Without hesitation, Carol said “Yes. I want to read about the Red Wings in the paper.” For a 45-year-old non-reader, this was quite a challenge. She joined FAR’s Creative Tutoring Program receiving her reading instruction from tutor Beverly Bailey. She has already progressed beyond Dr. Seuss and has made regular trips to the library to select new reading material. “I want Carol to be able to read for herself when I am no longer here to read for her,” Mrs. Collins explained. As Carol continues to exceed expectations, the ability to satisfy her mom’s wish is in sight.
